Weekend Update...Pick of the Week is this Saturday at G2 Gallery!

Time for the WEEKEND UPDATE….sorry it's a bit late today. Hey, I am up in the mountains, outside of Yosemite. Had to come to town to find some internet.

My Pick of the Week is this Saturday, (wish I could be there) at one of my favorite galleries in Venice. G2 Gallery, (1503 Abbot Kinney),  is having a reception for Brian Skerry, a brilliant National Geographic photographer. Skerry, specializes in underwater photography and his images are breathtaking.

This event takes place from 6:30 pm till 9:00 pm. Yes it does cost a mere $5.00, but this happens to be a fundraiser for Heal the Bay, and it’s a great cause. Also there is always wine and refreshments and appetizers too. Don’t forget to RSVP at events@theg2gallery.com.

BTW…. Carnevale Venice Beach! is cancelled. Yes it was scheduled for June 4th, but I have been asked by the producers to post that it is indeed cancelled….BOOHOO. Check out their facebook page for all the details. It all boils down to the city’s ridiculously high permit fees!

Weekend Update, Pick of the Week, The Venice Art Walk & Auctions Start Tonight!

My pick of the week is The Venice Art Walk & Auctions, starting TONIGHT and going on all this weekend. May 20-22. If you have never attended, The Venice Art Walk is a yearly charity event which includes some of the most talented, established and emerging artists. Artists not only donate their work, but also their time and space as they open up their studios and private homes and offer a birds eye view of how and where they create. Events occur all weekend with various admission prices as well as some free happenings which are open to the public. (Art by Fay Ray)

Yes there is an admission charge, BUT, it benefits the Venice Family Clinic which is a very important part of our community here in Venice. I have been to this event before and the art is always amazing. The Studio tour part of it which is on Sunday, ($50.00) is my favorite…but there are events happening all weekend, starting Friday, (FREE) and some new architectural tours. See below for the events categorized by the date, under Friday, Saturday and Sunday events. If you are in a cash crunch, there is still time to volunteer at some of the studios and you will be able to get one free tix…see website, http://theveniceartwalk.org/.

For more details about the Art Walk, I have a full article about it on the Examiner, feel free to check it out http://exm.nr/louOpl. (This is NOT the Venice Art Crawl by the way….that happened yesterday (it was lots of fun by the way if you missed it. (Art by Linda Fenster)

Venice has long been one of the most enchanting artist’s communities. For years artists have flocked to this seaside community, so it only seems natural that this yearly benefit would begin and continue in Venice. As always, The Venice Art Walk and Auctions will benefit the Venice Family Clinic. Venice Art Walk & Auctions has been working to support Venice Family Clinic programs for the past 30 years. Each year, volunteers give their time to support the cause. Over 400 artists donate work for the silent auction. Happy customers walk away with a priceless piece of artwork, knowing that they have also helped a worthy cause. (Art by Paul Deters)

Venice Family Clinic’s mission is to provide free, quality health care to people in need. Established in 1970 by founder Phillip Rossman, MD, and co-founder Mayer B. Davidson, MD, the Clinic has grown from a small storefront operation into the largest free clinic in the country.
