Weekend Update...Halloween, Halloween and more Halloween...Did you know it's Halloween this week?

Lots of updates….Before we get on with the week, I recently had the chance to see a brilliant exhibit curated by political artist Sophia Gasparian at Avenue 50 Studio in Highland Park.


It includes collaborations as well as work by Sophia and fellow artists….. See my review of the show on the Examiner as well as my Art for Sale page.

In Culver City, Mihai Nicodim Gallery is having an opening reception for artists, Miklos Onucsan and Serban Savu.

Then right next door, David Kordansky Gallery presents Cornfabulation, a collaborative exhibition by Aaron Curry and Richard Hawkins. Though both artists are originally from Texas, and Curry was Hawkins' student at Art Center College of Design in the early 2000s, the exhibition goes far beyond notions of camaraderie or shared influence.

There are ton’s of Halloween events….. but before we get to my pick of the week which is a Halloween art event at G2 which starts in the evening, there are a couple of daytime events happening.



Now some may have headed off to Johsua Tree for the second weekend for the Hwy62 Art Tours. Stop into Joshua Tree Art Gallery (JTAG), who will be having am artist reception for Tour De Force and to celebrate HWY 62 Art Tours in conjunction with the Morongo Basin Cultral Arts Council.



JTAG’s exhibition, Tour De Force will feature artists, David Burnham, Kim Chasen, Karen Florek, Frederick Fulmer, Marcia Geiger, James O'Keefe, Naomi Parker, Drew Reese, Steve Rieman, Suzanne Ross and Tobi Taboada.

LACMA offers a Free Storytelling Performance: Pumpkin Bones, Picnic Stones, and Hallow's Eve Tales….Design and create props, costumes, and instruments for a participatory storytelling performance where everyone has a role! You and your family will help the storytelling team of Karen Golden and Rebecca Martin tell stories about bones, dogs, pumpkins and other Tim Burton-inspired themes, using your hand-made props, instruments, and your imagination.

Canal Club always puts on a fun Halloween bash and yes there is no cover, though you do need to buy drinks…hey it’s a restaurant, what do you want? I have been to this event many times and always had a great time. I have fond memories of owner Daniel Samakow, getting wild in a Toga!!!

Now I don't get the whole wax museum thing....but this would be the night to do it. Celebrate Halloween with some dead celebrities at Madame Tussauds from 10:00 pm till 2:00 am! Tonight's event boasts of two floors of maze-like atmosphere with hundreds of celebrity wax figures and you don't have to fight them to the bar...Yeah!

Here’s another art Halloween party…. Beacon Arts celebrates their one year anniversary with a costumed dance party, featuring art and music.

At 18th Street Arts in honor of Pacific Standard Time, Collaboration Labs (EZTV) hosts a five-week series of video screenings, live music, performances and artist talks. Co-founder and Director Michael J. Masucci produces the event featuring "Art as Acheology" as tonight’s premiere showing.


CORE is a multimedia performance by Kate Johnson with S. Pearle Sharp and Ken Luey, PhD. This event runs from 8:00 pm till 9:30 pm and will feature music, animation, video and spoken word to tell the story of memory, haunted tongues and disappearing histories, personal and cultural.
