PICK OF THE WEEK is this Sunday July 10th from 3:00 pm -7:00 pm, come celebrate SUMMER AND SUNSHINE, and friends. This will be a fun community event where  you can meet the author and poet, Ava Bird celebrating two new books, “The New Now” and “Rage Against The War Machine”. with Venice Divas singing LIVE! 

This FREE event will feature live music, poetry and spoken word featuring Ava Bird, Rex Butters, Kathy Leonardo (yeah, it’s me), DJ Noj and Suzy Williams.

Wednesday, July 6th

If you are into music, Guitarology at the Melody Bar & Grill (9132 S. Sepulveda Blvd., 90045) offers some fantastic players from 8:00 pm till 11:00 pm. Jesse Jay Harris is guest hosting. Guitarology has become a musical haven for incredible musicians.

Thursday, July 7th

There’s lots going on tonight. It’s the start of four major FREE Summer Concert Series

If you prefer to hang by the beach, enjoy the start of the 27th year of the Twilight Dance Series, Time for those fun free summer concerts on the deck of the Santa Monica Pier every Thursday night, for 10 weeks from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Also, after the concert at 10:00 pm, stop by Poseidon SUP's new store is located at 1654 Ocean Ave, Santa Monica CA 90401 This is their first night and will continue every Thursday for the summer. And the Culver City Music Festival, presented by the Culver City Redevelopment Agency, is featuring 8 weeks of free concerts every Thursday night from 7pm-9pm from July 7th thru August 25th. This is their 17th year….Musical styles include Rock, Reggae, Celtic, Jazz, Latin and more. Shows occur in the Culver City Hall Courtyard. Access to the courtyard begins at 4:30pm. Parking is free underneath City Hall. 

Tonight’s event features fiery Spanish Flamenco and percussion with Incendio and Argentinian rock with Los Pinguos. Additional parking is free for the first two hours in designated structures.

Or Marina Del Rey offers classical concerts every other Thursday night, and Pops concerts every other Saturday night at the beautiful Burton Chase Park overlooking the Marina. Chase Burton Park sits on the end of a peninsula and boasts a wonderful view of the marina’s main channel. It’s a fantastic place to have a picnic. Bring a blanket some wine while and enjoy the music.  

Tonight, enjoy the 75-member Marina del Rey Summer Symphony, conducted by Frank Fetta with finalists from the famed Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition. Grand Performances presents the 25th season of free outdoor concerts and performing arts at California Plaza in Downtown LA, with a full program of music and entertainment that reflects the best of global culture and inspires community among the diverse peoples of Los Angeles.

Tonight’s show features two acts. The highly celebrated international touring modern dance company, Diavolo, a unique collection of gymnasts, acrobats, athletes and actors who create along with leader Jacques Heim, powerful, witty and exhilarating movements for the stage.  As well as Colombia-based Noruz features two dancers and an actress in a work that looks at women in that country’s prison system. Friday July 8th


Summertime is here and a great place to start off your evening is by the beach at Figtree’s Café. They have a great happy hour tonight, you can hear some great live music tonight at 5:00 pm. Fefe Lee, will be performing with friends. Beatle songs are a big part of his repertoire. Show goes till 7:00 pm.

Each month an artist/filmmaker will curate the night of short films. Tonight, MMG artist, Kiel Johnson, take a turn with short films of all varieties. Saturday, July 9th

South will be holding a fundraiser on Saturday July 9th in hopes of raising money for David Boyd (the brother of co-owner Philip Boyd) and his family. David was diagnosed with stage 3 Lymphoma. After several treatments of chemotherapy he was all set for his final treatment and things took a turn for the worse. 

He has had a long battle and will have to go through a bone marrow transplant once his body stabilizes and his cancer has been put into remission.  Starting at 11:00 am, South will be offering up a bracelet at the door that will allow each customer to receive a free buffet/drink special all day (that money will go to “TeamBoyd”).

During the day, enjoy numerous events that will hopefully inspire people to come be a part of the festivities. There will be raffles, contests and silent auctions for all to partake in. All proceeds from raffles and silent auctions will be donated as well as donation buckets and a portion of the day sales. 

The Silent auction will feature works from some incredible artists and photographers such as Vivian Flasch, Barbara Kosoff (right), David Phillips, Sona Mirzaei(above), Jules Muck(below,left) and Larry Shapiro.

Live bands all day and night, photo booths, waitresses will be face painting, there will be a silent art auction and much, much more… There will be celebrity sightings, a live feed, so David can watch from home. Another wonderful Benefit is happening this weekend. Enjoy a summer evening of art, gourmet food, wine, jazz, and an ocean-front view of the Pacific from Hamilton Galleries in Santa Monica, all to help send lower income youth to Summer Surf Camp in Malibu—a win-win for everybody. “O Solé L.A.” is a group exhibit by an eclectic group of emerging artists in Los Angeles represented by the Hamilton Galleries. 20 percent of proceeds from art sales benefit the Swim Scholarship.

The Moca Pacific Design Center presents the work of legendary West Coast assemblage artist George Herms alongside the work of a younger generation of Los Angeles and New York artists.
